Fixed: Magnetic heading calibration no longer sensitive to flight attitudes that are signifigantly different than those experienced in level flight. This primarily resulted in less than optimal calibrations in some taildragger aircraft. Performance will not change until a heading calibration is performed after an upgrade to 5.6.0.



Fixed: Autopilot NAVSRC lost messages which caused the autopilot to drop down from NAV to TRK or HDG mode.

Support Program Only: Improvements to support firmware upgrades in OEM installations such as Vans Aircraft that use locked settings files to distribute settings during firmware updates. All other customers unaffected. There has been NO CHANGE to the underlying firmware files from 5.3.



Improved: An alternate set of autopilot control algorithms which may improve roll performance in some aircraft. To try this mode simply set TRN RT LMT to 0. The autopilot will more directly control bank angle instead of targeting a specific turn rate. The maximum bank angle that the autopilot allows continues is still limited by the BANK LIMIT parameter. In this mode, set the BANK ANGLE LIMIT to the maximum value you want the autopilot to use in a turn.

Fixed: Multiple EFISs+AP74 configurations no longer susceptible to rebooting. This fix is the firmware-based solution mentioned in this forum post.

Added: Metric vertical speed info item (digital number) is now expressed in meters per second to better match the graphical tape version, which is in tenths of meters per second.



Improved: Autopilot GPS-to-HDG mode drop-downs reduced when GPS data goes momentarily bad.

Fixed: Heading shaking and accuracy issues that could occur in some installations. Please note, the installer may need to recalibrate after upgrade.

Added: Support for SkyView conversion. Please note, for existing servos in the field you must upgrade to Version 5.2 before connecting to a SkyView system.



Fixed: Incorrect attitude performance introduced by 5.1.0 software. This occurred on a very small percentage of units but is now resolved in all cases.



Note: It is no longer recommended that Keep Alive be connected EFIS and EMS products.

Added: %SLP parameter in SETUP > AP > STATUS. Used for debugging cumulative servo slips when using the AP.

Added: Autopilot GPS Roll Steering. AP will now fly ARINC ROLL commands (GPS Steering) if the GPS provides those commands. ROLL steering will be used any time roll commands are present and AP GPS/NAV mode is selected.

Added: Autopilot status display on the 10 series' HSI page.

NAV/VOR will intercept a VOR from almost any position relative to the station; 10nm out or more is typical. NAV/LOC must a) have the OBS set to the runway heading on the HSI and b) be engaged with the CDI needle off the peg, and the heading more or less aligned with the OBS

Added: Data log files now have servo position and HSI parameters (NAV and BRG sources, selected course, CDI, to/from flag, glide slope, bearing pointers, dist to waypoint/dme).

Fixed: Pressing and holding the COURSE knob would not properly sync the course pointer to the current bearing. Instead it would sync to 360.

Fixed: Course can now be changed when an EFIS is hooked to an SL30 without an HS34 installed, and the SL30 is tuned to an active LOC or ILS.

Added: AOA voice alert added to HS34 and AP74.  When SETUP > HSI/AP > AUDIO ALERTS > AOA is set to EXT VOICE the word "stall" is repeated in addition to the efis tonal output. When set to EXT TONE only the control panel generates the progressive tone. If HS34 or AP74 fails, setting reverts to EFIS TONE for direct audio output from EFIS. When set to EFIS TONE only the efis progressive tone is generated.

Added: Audible 3-tone alert on autopilot disengage, if no external voice device (HS34/AP74) installed.

A pop-up value window appears when adjusting a value with HS34.

Improved: Malformed AvMap NMEA data should be handled better, resulting in magnetic variation being back-calulated from other values when it is not explicitly set. This allows a correct magnetic bearing and course to be displayed. AvMAP must have NMEA set to "processed."

Improved: Modified percent power calculation for Lycoming and Continental engines to account for engine RPM red line, not compression ratio. When EMS > SETUP > GLOBAL > ENGINE TYPE is set to LY/CON, then the Tachometer HI RED/YEL parameter is factored into the percent power calculation. See: EMS > SETUP > SENSORS > TACHOMETER > HI RED/YEL.

Improved: Pressing HEADING knob button no longer toggles the HDG bug on/off. HEADING button press now acts as a SYNC of HDG bug to current heading. Pressing and holding HEADING toggles the heading bug on.

Improved: VSI display jitter when at low speeds.

Added: Support for HS34 HSI Expansion module.

Improved: Various HSI page changes to support HS34 and user feedback about legibility of display elements.

Improved: Vertical guidance indicator now matches Garmin 396/496 indicator when receiving VNAV information.

Improved: Manually set OAT (available when an EFIS does not have an OAT probe hooked up) is not considered valid until it is explicitly set by the user.

Improved: Serial GPS input compatibility improved with multiple devices.

Improved: DSAB updated to handle all communications between Dynon Avionics products. PC serial ports no longer need to be connected between EFIS and EMS units as previously required. All data and device features, except for setup functions, can now be used from any connected screen.



Added: Auto-set of kollsman window.

The current indicated altitude is preserved across a power cycle. If possible, the baro setting is adjusted at power-up so that the new indicated altitude matches the saved value.
This is not a replacement for setting the baro by the pilot before takeoff, but it should make the baro very close to the proper value, minimizing the amount of adjustment needed.

Added: Manual set of GPS selected course.

If the GPS serial stream does not supply the selected course sentence, then the COURSE menu can be used to set the course on the HSI page.

Added: Save settings on power-off.

In addition to the current logic, units will now save their settings when powered off with the front panel button.

The current airspeed units are displayed in the threshold set menus.

Added: Menu restore after alert acknowledge.

If navigating in the menu system and an alarm bar is raised, the current state of the menu is restored after the last alarm is acknowledged or cleared.

Added: Magnetic intensity to magnetic calibration.

As part of the EDC calibration process the pilot must enter the magnetic intensity of the location where the calibration is taking place.

Added: Mechanical style roll indication.

Added another style of roll indication that better mimics a mechanical instrument.

Added: Hooked pitch lines.

Modified the pitch lines to have hooked ends that point toward the horizon.

Added: GPS ground track bug.

The old triangle style heading bug on the EFIS heading tape was modified to indicate GPS ground track if available.

Added: New digital airspeed and altitude indicators.

Modified the airspeed and altitude tapes' depiction with scrolling digital numbers aligned with the current indication on the tape. The visible tape range was widened, and the position of tape and corresponding tape numbers was swapped.

Added: Airspeed and turn rate trend indicators.

Added a 6 second indicated airspeed trend bar. Modified the turn rate indicator to indicate a 6 second trend.

Added: Altitude alerter.

Toggling the altitude bug on will activate the altitute alerter function with the bug value as the target altitude. While climbing or descending toward the target altitude a level-off alert sounds when passing through 500' from the target altitude. The target altitude is considered captured when altitude is within 150' of the target. Flying more than 200' away from the target will trigger a short audio alert and alternate the bug in red and yellow as a visual alert. The visual climb or descend alert will clear after recapturing the target altitude or 30 seconds.

Added: Graphical vertical speed indicator.

Added an analog vertical speed indicator. The VSI can be selected for a 1000'/min, 2000'/min or 4000'/min maximum. The indicator bar is scaled to indicate a 6 second altitude trend when in 2000'/min mode, or in 4000'/min mode up to 1000'/min.

Added: Course deviation and glide slope indicators to the EFIS display.

Added a course deviation / cross track deviation and glide slope / vertical deviation indicator to the EFIS display. The color of the bar indicates the currently selected navigation source. The center mark of the CDI functions as the To/From indication with an upward or downward pointing triangle, or blank.

If a conflict between the CDI and the roll scale is detected, then the CDI is removed from the display until the conflict is resolved.

Added: Wind indication on EFIS.

If available, added a depiction of the wind's relative angle and absolute speed on the EFIS.

Added: New altitude and airsped bugs.

Modified the altitude and airspeed bugs' look and feel to match the heading bug on the HSI.

Added: New AOA display.

A new AOA display style was added. This display shows horizantal bars which pull away as AOA increases and turn into downward pointing arrows as AOA approaches stall. A red triangle at the top of the display will flash while AOA audio is active.

Added: User configuration of serial ports.

An HSI Setup menu was added. This menu makes it possible to override the auto detect feature of the local serial port.

Added: AOA audio threshold.

To reduced nuisance AOA audio alerts, a threshold was added under which audio is inhibited. AOA audio is inhibited at power-up. Audio will continue to be inhibited until IAS reaches the threshold (20 kts by default). The AOA bar continues to operate as normal. Once above the threshold audio will be uninhibited and will operate as normal until IAS drops below the threshold. However, if IAS drops below the threshold while audio is active (in a stall), audio will remain active as long as IAS stays alive. This does not fix a bad AOA calibration.

Added: HSI course setting on EFIS.

The current course setting of the selected source on the HSI is displayed as a V on the heading type. The color indicates the currently selected navigation source.

Improved: Indeterminate attitude alert message.

Modified the ATITUDE INDETERMINATE alert message to be HORIZON RECOVERING...

Improved: Turn coordinator bar visibility.

The turn coordinator was modified to be more visible in all lighting conditions.

Improved: OAT set menu display.

The OAT set menu now display the current temperature units. The menu no longer displays a + sign for positive temperature settings.

The airspeed indicator now comes alive above 20kts and remains active until going below 15kts.

Modified the EFIS heading tape to have a digital indicator similar to the HSI.

Fixed a glitch which would allow the END button to be pressed at the wrong time during a magnetic calibration. This was causing the calibration to be clobbered.
