SkyView SV-MAP-270 Navigation Software

SkyView Navigation Software: The SkyView System is designed to have an integrated GPS Moving Map. However, this software feature is not yet fully complete. When available it will be a $500 upgrade. The SV-MAP-270 is a software only Module, and will contain navigation functions such as Direct To, Flight Plans, and airport and airspace data. The navigation database will contain airports and airspace data similar to other GPS instruments.

Free Trial: SkyView Version 2.5 adds a free trial preview version of the upcoming purchasable SV-MAP-270 Navigation Mapping Software. Starting at firmware version 1.5 and continuing until the SV-MAP-270 is released with version 3.0 in late 2010, Dynon Avionics is providing the existing progress towards the moving map product as an unlimited-time free trial. Currently, (version 2.5, released July 2010), this includes the ability to navigate “direct to” airports and aviation navaids. It also can display basic information about airports, runways, and navaids. . This free trial is only available in the US because of the unavailability of free worldwide aviation data. Upon the release of the SV-MAP-270 product, the unlimited free trial will be discontinued and will be replaced by a time-limited trial of the SV-MAP-270 for all customer. The full version of the SV-MAP-270 will be available for $500.

Navigation Data Updates: Once the fully SV-MAP-270 Module is released, Navigation Data for all covered regions will be available on a regular basis via an Internet download to a PC. The trial navigation mapping software that is currently available offers aviation and obstacle data for US customers only, downloadable here. It can then be transferred to the SkyView System via a USB Flash Drive. It is expected, but not finalized, that US data will have both free and paid options from different sources. As the US is the only country that still publishes aviation data for public use, data updates for the rest of the world will be via paid updates only.
